Hotels directory

We're building this out hotel by hotel, borough by borough. Here's how we're approaching it.

How this directory works

Every profile we add covers the same things: what neighborhood you're actually in (not just what the hotel calls itself), realistic walking distance to a subway stop, and what the room rate typically includes versus what's an add-on. No sponsored placements, no affiliate-driven rankings.

What we're starting with

Rather than launch with a shallow list of hundreds of hotels scraped from a booking API, we're profiling a smaller number properly first — a mix of price points across Midtown, Lower Manhattan, and Brooklyn — and expanding from there every week.

Where we've started

More on the way. Individual property profiles are being added weekly. In the meantime, the best area to stay guide and budget vs. luxury breakdown will get you most of the way to a decision.

General booking advice that holds regardless of hotel

  • Resort fees and "destination fees" are common in NYC hotels even though it's not a resort destination — check for them before comparing headline rates.
  • Weekday nights (Sunday–Thursday) are often more expensive than weekends in Midtown, since a lot of demand is business travel — the opposite of leisure destinations.
  • Room sizes run smaller than most US cities by default. A "standard" room in Manhattan is often what other cities call a "compact" room.
